Volkswagen of America, Inc. continues its fourth consecutive year of support for Sundance as the official festival vehicle and one of four presenting sponsors of the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, taking place January 19-29, 2006. Showcasing the all-new 2006 GTI, the Passat Wagon 4MOTION and the entire range of VW vehicles, Volkswagen will provide all official transportation for Festival filmmakers, cast members and VIPs.

«To be partnered with the Sundance Film Festival for the fourth straight year is an incredible opportunity » said Heidi Korte, Brand Promotions Manager at Volkswagen of America, Inc. «Continuing to support the hard work and dedication of such stellar filmmakers and artists as those involved in Sundance is important to Volkswagen, and the Festival provides us with the means to honor the craft of independent filmmaking

For the second year, Volkswagen will also host the 2006 Sundance Volkswagen Main Street Lounge, a two-story lounge and event space. During the day, the VW Main Street Lounge will be the hot spot destination for Festival filmmakers and talent. Here, festival talent will stop in for interviews or just chill out, relax and re-hydrate as they move from screening to soiree. Backstage Creations, who have created celebrity hospitality experiences for Hollywood’s biggest events, has created a luxurious upstairs gifting experience for Sundance talent with a variety of high-end items.

VIP parties taking place at the Lounge during the festival include:

Friday, January 20th – Cocktail party for the cast of Steel City

Saturday, January 21st – Big Beach Films cocktail party for festival films Little Miss Sunshine starring Greg Kinnear, Steve Carrell and Toni Collette and SherryBaby starring Maggie Gyllenhaal

Saturday, January 21st – Late night party for the cast of Night Listener including Toni Collette and Jeremy Sisto

Sunday, January 22nd – Reception for Beastie Boys festival film

Monday, January 23rd – SPIN Reggaeton music party

One lucky filmmaker will have the chance to win the use of a Volkswagen Touareg through our “Relentless Drive” contest, which pays homage to the hard work and true dedication that goes into getting a movie made. Throughout the week, seven director profiles will be featured on the back page of the Sundance Daily Insider and VW Owners will have the opportunity to “vote” on these unique director stories. The votes will be tallied, and at the Volkswagen Owner Reception on Thursday evening, January 26th, the winner of the first-ever “Relentless Drive Award” will be awarded his or her Touareg.

Also, a new Touareg, on display throughout the Festival at 301 Main Street, will be signed by 2006 Festival filmmakers and talent. The signed hood will then be auctioned at the end of the Festival with all proceeds from the sale benefiting the Sundance Institute.

“Sundance Institute is pleased to have Volkswagen as a Presenting Sponsor for the 2006 Sundance Film Festival,” said Ken Brecher, Executive Director, Sundance Institute. “We are grateful for the company’s support of independent filmmakers and know that their presence at the Festival will contribute to the lively, exciting environment that has come to personify Sundance.”
